Betty Jean (Engle) Walker, our beloved Nana, passed away on December 22, 2020 at her residence in Waco, Texas at the age of 83. She was the widow of Robert Gerald Walker. They shared 61 years together.
Born in Durant, MS, she was the daughter of Clayton and Lucille (Toten) Engle. She married Robert "Jerry" Gerald Walker on August 30, 1956 in Jackson, MS. Jerry preceded her in death on November 27, 2017.
Betty is survived by her brother, Bobby Engle and wife Lynn of Forrest, MS; one sister, Peggy Waddell and husband Bobby of Sallis, MS; one sister-in-law, Faye Engle of Durant, MS. She also leaves behind her faithful friend and beloved Pomeranian, Precious.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents: husband; and one brother, James Engle.
Betty graduated from Durant High School in 1955. She married Jerry the following year and became an Air Force wife, travelling all over the world before eventually settling in San Angelo, Texas. They had three daughters; Debra Ann, Karen Sue, and Patti Jo. Betty enjoyed her job at Texas Bank as a Bookkeeper. Her hobbies included sewing, watching Murder She Wrote, Gun Smoke and Matlock, and completing puzzles in her later years.
Betty attended West Side Baptist Church when living in San Angelo, TX. After moving to Waco, TX in 2017, Betty attended New Hope Baptist Church in Riesel.
Betty, our beloved Nana, left a long and amazing legacy that consists of ten grandkids and fifteen great grandkids. Thank you Nana for starting this "mess" of a family and teaching us the value of family.
