

Bobby Ray Hughes - He went by "Bob," lost his fight for life at the age of 85. Bob was born in Soper, Oklahoma on January 13, 1937, to Robert Lee and Dorothy Gilbert Hughes. He attended Lakeview High School and grew up peddling fruits and vegetables. Bob started driving trucks at 12 years old, hauling vegetables to Amarillo for truck farms north of San Angelo. He got a knack for selling everything from watermelons to lumber and pipe.
He went into the Navy at 19 years of age and was on a destroyer, the USS Wren for 2 years. Bob was an engine man, he kept the steam engine running 24/7. While stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, Bob made friends with Lloyd Miller; he took him home to meet his family, where he met his wife, Shirley K. Miller. They were married in 1958 and came back to Texas.
Together they had 2 children, Jimmy Lee and Alma Faye. As the family grew up, they got into raising cattle and livestock, oilfield production, and buying and selling pipe and equipment of all descriptions. He loved to make a deal and was always looking for the next one.
Bob is survived by his wife, Shirley Hughes; his son, Jim L. Hughes and wife Jan; his daughter, Alma Hallmark Gordon and husband Billy; his grandchildren, Gary Lee Hughes and wife Krissa; Ashley Trimble and husband Justin; Toby Allen Hallmark and wife Lisa and Todd Dwayne Hallmark. He is also survived by his great grandchildren, Rylee Hughes, Gunnar Brooks, Hayleigh Hallmark, Carmen Dylan Hallmark, Kaylie Rosson and Jayden Jones and great-great granddaughter, Dusty Rosson.
Bob and his son Jim owned and operated Hughes Pipe and Supply for 45 years. On weekends, Bob and Shirley enjoyed their ranches, exotic animals, and cattle. They also enjoyed trips to the casinos. He will be deeply missed by his wife who stood by him through thick and thin, as well as his children, family and friends. They family would like to send a special Thank You to Krissa Hughes for her care during his illness. A visitation will be held from 6-8 pm, Thursday, February 10, 2022 at Johnson's Funeral Home. His funeral service will be at 10 am, Friday, February 11, 2022 in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel with Mills Caraway officiating. Burial will follow at Belvedere Memorial Park. Pallbearers include Gary Hughes, Toby Hallmark, Todd Hallmark, Justin Trimble, Gunnar Brooks and Garrett Rosson.
