

Charles A. McDaniel, 83 years old, passed away Dec. 11, 2014. He was born in Lepanto, Arkansas to Willie and Minnie McDaniel. They raised six children. Of which three sons, Lonnie, Thomas, and Jimmie, and one daughter, Jimmie’s twin, Genève, preceded him in death. Charles sons, Thomas Richard (Rusty) and Douglas Frederick McDaniel, and one granddaughter, Anna Laura McDurmitt Sheffield, also preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Billie J. McDaniel; daughter and son-in-law Debbie and Joe Hatfield; grandchildren Ricky McDaniel and Kris McDurmitt; and three great-grandchildren, Laura Lynn Sheffield, and Thorin and Logan McDurmitt. He leaves behind many extended family members, friends, and his beloved dog Princess.
Charles joined the Navy and was honorably discharged. He met and married Billie Joyce Avriett in 1953, and they raised two sons and one daughter, resulting in 62 wonderful years of marriage.
Charles was a 32 year Veteran of the San Angelo Fire Department, retiring in 1989 as Assistant Fire Chief. While employed as a Fireman, he was instrumental in creating the San Angelo Fire Department Emergency Medical Service. He also commissioned the Statuary and Time Capsule, “The Rescue”, which commemorates all Firefighters.
Charles was an avid sportsman. He loved hunting and his yearly trips to Lake Amistad for fishing with his buddies from around the state. He loved his daily “Coffee” with his friends, traveling, and gambling trips with his wife and friends.
Even though Charles led a full and busy life, he always had time to be active in the community and was always there to help his friends. Special thanks to Dad’s neighbors, Joe and Amanda, Baptist Hospice Nurse Janet, and all of Baptist Hospice Employees.
Graveside service is 2:00 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 15, 2014 at Fairmount Cemetery with Kevin McSpadden of Baptist Hospice officiating.
