

Douglas Arthur Wallace went to meet his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, October 28, 2012. He was born on March 6, 1943 in San Angelo, the youngest of four children of Floris A. (Son) and Mary Aileen Barnett Wallace.
When he was in grade school, he enjoyed participating in YMCA boxing. He was also a fast runner and excelled in many track events. He was saved and baptized when he was thirteen years old at the old Baptist Temple on Volney Street. Reverend A.V. Henderson baptized Doug, and his cousin, Bill Melton on the same day.
He married Shirley Jean Brock on September 29, 1962, and they enjoyed over fifty years of marriage. Their only son, James, was born in 1963 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and preceded him in death in 2010.
Doug worked as a truck driver for many years, for Mobil Oil Company and for Bryce Oil Company. While working for Bryce Oil, the truck he was driving caught on fire and he drove the flaming truck out of Sterling City where people would not be harmed. He also worked for the San Angelo Fire Department for twenty seven years and was an EMT. He was retired at the time of his death.
Doug was also preceded in death by his parents, sister Bobbie Jo Austin and brothers, Dan and David Wallace. Doug is survived by his wife, Shirley and granddaughters Amanda Fowler, her husband Adam and their son, Eddie, and by Rebekah Wallace. He is also survived by his sisters in-law Sue Wallace, Nona Wallace, and brother in-law Bob Austin as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A visitation will be held at Johnson’s Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 30 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Graveside service will be held at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens on Thursday, November 1 at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the West Texas Boys Ranch and Life Point Baptist Church.
