Earl Gordon Wisdom

He was born June 15, 1926, in San Antonio, Texas, the only child of the late Alice Kirby Wisdom and Edward Jefferson Wisdom. On July 10, 1960 he married Marry Artillar Leonard, in San Angelo, who survives.

From 1944 until 1946, he served in the U.S. Navy as an Able Seaman and as a Naval Armed Guard in combat action in the Pacific Theater during World War II. After his honorable discharge from the US Navy, he pursued his undergraduate and post-graduate degrees in social sciences at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in 1950. In 1955, He was employed by the Concho Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America as a Professional Executive. Upon his retirement, in 1991, Mr. Wisdom continued to be very active in volunteer work for the Concho Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America for an additional 21 years, up until his final illness. Mr. Wisdom was a member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church in San Angelo.

Earl G. Wisdom was preceded in death by his parents, Alice Kirby Wisdom and Edward Jefferson Wisdom; and his in-laws, Terah Petty Leonard Baldwin and R.L. Baldwin. He is survived by the love of his life, his Wife of 52 years, Mary Leonard Wisdom, of the home; step-daughter, Lucy Jane Hathway of San Angelo, TX.; step-son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Donna Hathway of Wimberly, TX.; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Leslie Wisdom of San Angelo, TX.; seven grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Monday August 13, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Johnson’s Funeral Home. A formal funeral service, open to all, especially area boy scouts, will be held Tuesday August 14, 2012 at 2:00 PM at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church in San Angelo, Texas. A Graveside service with full military honors and burial to take place immediately following at Fairmount Cemetery 1120 W. Avenue N, San Angelo, Texas.
