Edith Moore

Edith Moore went to join her beloved husband, Cliff, in their heavenly home on Monday, December 8, 2025. After a long and courageous battle with dementia, she continued to know, in the deepest way, who belonged to her and who she loved, even on the days when the world felt unfamiliar.

Born in Brownfield, Texas, in 1944 to Ken and Murle VanZant, Edith grew up in Water Valley alongside her three siblings. She attended San Angelo College (now Angelo State University) with dreams of becoming an elementary school teacher. While working at the Standard-Times newspaper, she met the love of her life, Cliff Moore. They married in 1966 and remained inseparable for the next 54 years.

Cliff’s photography initially took them far from San Angelo. In the early years living in Butte, Montana, when her children were small, Edith ran an in-home daycare, caring for 8–10 children on her own so that Misti and Cory would always have playmates. After leaving Montana, the family moved to El Paso, where she served as the director of the First Baptist Church daycare, overseeing more than 300 children; each of whom she treated as her own.

When their time in El Paso came to an end, the family relocated to Colorado, where Edith discovered she was an exceptional salesperson. She worked in advertising at The Gazette Telegraph, while Cliff worked as a photographer for a competing newspaper.

After many years away, the family eventually returned home to San Angelo. Edith enjoyed a long and successful career there, primarily in advertising at KLST, where she had truly perfected her craft and could sell anything to anyone-and she knew it.

Later in life, when most would have been settling into retirement, she and Cliff opened Cakes & Moore Bakery and then Nana’s Grab & Go. Edith was an extraordinary baker and cook, known for filling countless homes and hearts with her creations.

Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Moore; her parents, Kenneth and Murle VanZant; and her sister, Irene Hogan. She is survived by her children, Misti Moore (Lee Cornell) and Cory Moore (Rhonda); her grandchildren, Jordan (Bianca) Curtis, Dylan (Hannah) Bearden, Stormy (Jimmy North) Bearden, Clay (Dorthy) Moore, and Molly Moore; and her great-grandchildren Carter, Kora, Kiah, and Olivia (who is on the way). She is also survived by her brothers Eddie (JoBeth) VanZant and Tommy (Sheila) VanZant, as well as many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Brayden Park, who loved and cared for her; to the staff of Gentiva Hospice, whose visits, assessments, and ministry brought comfort in her final months; and to the many friends who continued to ask about her over the years. We would like to specifically mention Papiana from Brayden Park for all the daily care and love she gave Edith. Megan from Gentiva Hospice for talking with her on the many hospice visits, ensuring she had the best care and medical attention. Also, Clint from Gentiva Hospice, your ministry and bible study were very comforting to her, especially on the morning of her final day with us.

Dementia, in its many forms, is a terrible disease that steals our loved ones long before their passing. In Edith’s case, we are grateful that even when timelines and events became frustrating for her, she always had a smile for the people she loved every time we walked into the room.

Visitation for Edith will be held at Johnson's Funeral Home on December 11, 2025, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel on December 12, 2025, starting at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Water Valley Cemetery.
