
Edna Wood Bonner. Lytle, Texas. Edna Wood Bonner passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, at age 88. She was born on May 27, 1924, in Fort Worth, Texas, to parents Edgar and Maggie Wood. She was one of seven children. Her father passed away shortly after her birth and her mother selflessly placed Edna and her twin brother, Edgar, in an orphanage near Corsicana, Texas. She graduated from high school in 1941. She began working for the telephone company as an operator. In 1948, she met the love of her life, James Andrew Bonner and on June 20, 1948, they were married. They moved to College Station, Texas, where Andy completed his college education while Edna worked as a department secretary for the Department of Architecture at Texas A&M University. They moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, and lived there for several years while Andy was called up as a reservist during the Korean War. After her husband's discharge from the military, Andy and Edna moved to Lubbock, Brownfield, Odessa and finally San Angelo as Andy followed a career in the grocery business and Edna pursued her career as a professional secretary. In San Angelo, Edna was a member of Southland Baptist Church and especially loved the time spent with members of the Friendship Class. Edna loved to write and was a frequent contributor of articles to numerous publications, including the San Angelo Standard-Times column "My Turn". Preceding Edna in death were her parents; her husband of 57 years, Andy; brother Edgar Wood; sisters Ruby Lee and Lottie Harris; and granddaughter Courtney Bonner. Surviving Edna are her children, Richard Bonner and wife Jan of El Paso, Texas, Rebecca Brininstool of Round Rock, Texas, and James Paul Bonner and wife Rosemary of Lytle, Texas; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Two sisters and one brother also survive Edna, Evelyn Prestwood of Wichita Falls, Texas, Margaret Hamilton of Corsicana, Texas, and Monroe Wood of Fort Worth, Texas. She is also survived by sister-in-law Helen Boyd and her husband, Robert, of Eureka, Texas. Edna will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at Johnson Funeral Home in San Angelo, Texas. A graveside service and interment will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, in Fairmount Cemetery in San Angelo, Texas.
