

Our loving mother and "Grandmimi," Merle Fogle went to be with her Lord and Savior, Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015.
Merle (Wheeler), was born Sept. 11, 1923, in the Parvin community, Denton County, Texas, to Marvin Clayton Wheeler and Sarah Lavenia Kerr. The family moved to Hale County in 1926, and later to Hood County. Merle graduated from Granbury High School in 1941, as salutatorian of her class while working as the night operator for SW Bell Telephone Company. After graduation, she moved to Gatesville, Texas, where she worked as an operator for Gulf States Telephone Company during WWII. There she met her future husband, John J. Phillips while he was stationed at Camp Hood. To this union were born two daughters, Linda Gail and Eleanor Kaye. After the war, the family moved to San Angelo, where John served as a San Angelo city fireman and Merle worked for General Telephone Company of the Southwest. Merle was preceded in death by her parents; husbands John Phillips and B.C.Fogle; three sisters; a brother; and her grandson, Eric Meyer. She is survived by daughters, Linda Meyer, Kaye Marsh and husband Jesse; a stepson, Gary C. Fogle and wife Pam; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, whom she loved very dearly. Merle was a lifelong Christian, having accepted the Lord as her Savior at an early age. She was a faithful member of Edmund Boulevard Baptist Church and will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. Friends and family will be received for visitation from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, 2015, at Johnson's Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 12, 2015, in Johnson's Funeral Home chapel with Bro. Jim Benson and Bro. Tony Vasquez officiating. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be Buck James, Elwayne Crotwell, Fred Gust, Jack Downy, James McCleery and Ken Crocker. A special heartfelt thanks goes to the Springs Alzheimer's Unit, Regency House and Dr. Ty Hughston for their tender care.
