
She was born in Austin, TX on January 25, 1922 to John Ford Oglesby, Sr. and Mary Colvard Oglesby.
Later she moved with her parents to the ranch in the Kaffir Community in Schleicher County. She attended one room schools at Kaffir and Reynolds Communities where her mother taught. Ethel Ann had to open and close numerous gates each morning and evening while her mother drove a Model T Ford to school and then back home.
Junior High School was spent in San Antonio, TX and High School in San Angelo, TX. There were no school buses at the time. Ethel Ann is a graduate of Steven’s College in Columbia, MO and received her B.A. Degree from the University of Texas where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. She studied law at Columbia U. in New York and was employed by aquilines, Inc. and Colonial Air Lines in New York City.
After Teaching in Maryland and Mertzon, TX, she taught school many years in El Paso and The El Paso area. Upon retirement she moved back to Mertzon and later lived in Eldorado.
She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her brother John Ford Oglesby, Jr and his wife Norma, niece Janet Oglesby of Eldorado, Nephews John Ford Oglesby, III and his wife Elizabeth of Georgetown, TX and Scott Oglesby of Austin, TX. Also grand nieces, great grandnieces and many cousins.
Funeral service will be held at Johnson’s Funeral Home on Friday, January 13, 2012 at 2:00p.m. with burial to follow in Fairmount Cemetery.
