Fidencio “Fide” Lira, age 86, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026, in San Angelo, Texas. Born on July 5, 1939, in La Lajita Coah, Mexico, Fidencio lived a life marked by quiet strength, unwavering dedication to his work and family, and a deep love for the simple joys of life.
From a young age, Fidencio embodied the values of hard work and perseverance. At just 14 years old, he began working as a mechanic a trade that laid the foundation for his lifelong commitment to providing for those he loved. In 1966, he contributed with his work to the construction of the Amistad Dam in Del Rio, Texas—an achievement that stood as a testament to his skill and determination. He later worked at Hicks's Ponder for 18 years before beginning what he considered his proudest role: serving as a maintenance worker at Retama Manor on March 15, 1987. He remained dedicated to this position until his retirement in 2003.
Fidencio was known for his quiet demeanor and ever-present smile. Those who knew him recognized his gentle spirit and tireless work ethic. He had a special fondness for animals—especially chickens—and found great joy in caring for them. Yet nothing brought him more happiness than spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He shared over six decades of marriage with his beloved wife Carmen Lira—a union built on mutual respect and enduring love. Together they raised a large and loving family.
Fidencio is survived by his wife Carmen Lira and their children: David, Daniel, Fidencio Jr., Emilio, Eliseo, Elías, and Aracely. He also leaves behind his sister Eulalia (Lala) Lira and half-sisters Maria Lira, Gloria Lira and Rosa Lira and half-brothers Jorge Lira and Joel Lira; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Fidencio was preceded in death by his son Fernando Lira; his parents Jose Maria Lira and Margarita Lumbreras; his brothers Jesus Lira, Federico Lira, Emilio Lira, and Jose Lira; and his sister Margarita Lira.
