Our cherished mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Frankie B. Young Eudy, age 87, resident of San Angelo, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 21, 2021 in San Angelo, TX.
Frankie was the youngest of nine children born to Gustaf and Hulda Young on January 18, 1934. She was beloved by her older siblings (two brothers and six sisters) who often teased her that "Mama petted her and she was 'spoilt'. She learned how to cook, clean, and "tend to" babies from her mama, aunts, and siblings by watching them. She said there was "no such thing" as a written recipe when she was growing up. She grew up in a close knit family surrounded by her paternal grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Frankie and two of her nieces, Wilma & Virginia, deemed themselves "The Three Musketeers" because they were all close in age and did everything together.
She worked at Monarch Tile for 15 years and for San Angelo Independent School District as McGill Elementary's school cafeteria manager for 15 years until her retirement in 1994.
Family was everything to Frankie and she always showed her enduring love by feeding them! The family recipe of homemade Swedish pancakes has been passed down to family, not by a recipe, but by watching her and listening to her declare the batter is ready because it "just looks right." She was a pleaser and never wanted anyone to feel slighted; therefore, she made her infamous homemade biscuits with sausage gravy for those that weren't necessarily fans of the greatest breakfast ever made.
She was a lover of sweets and would often proclaim that if she were to only have one food it would be ice cream (although coconut cake ran a close second). You would be surprised to not find something sweet to eat in her kitchen (typically baked).
Frankie was also an amazing seamstress and had made countless beautiful articles of clothing for the entire family, including prom dresses for the granddaughters and blankets for all of the great-grandchildren and most recently, masks for anyone she could think of. She shared her love through her hard work and although her vision wasn’t what it used to be, she continued to sew and had finished sewing projects that others had started and given up on.
In 1959, Frankie met the love of her life, Jim Eudy. On October 26, 1964, they were married. Jim and Frankie had many adventures together over their 54 years together. They lived in their house in San Angelo, Texas since 1966, raising their seven children, welcoming 15 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. She has left an indelible mark in our lives and she brought out the best in all of us because of her unwavering love and devotion.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Gus and Hulda Young, her siblings, Helen Ripple (Frank), Annie Daniel (Marvin), Adeline Daniel (Lloyd), Lorraine Daniel (Marshall), Edwin “Buddy” Young (Louise), Stella McAnalley (Bill), Lawrence “Gus” Young (Dorothy), her beloved husband, Jim Eudy, son, Jimmy Eudy, daughter, Sherri Orona, and daughter-in-law, Debbi Sargent.
She is survived by her children, Dortha Sargent (Eugene), Leroy Sargent, Rodney Sargent (Laurie), Charlene Eudy, and Celina Eudy, her best friend and constant companion, Roper (her furry son), 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, sister, MaeRene Parker, sister-in-law, Mary Hyatt (Doug), numerous favorite nieces and nephews, and a multitude of loving friends.
The viewing will be Tuesday evening from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Home, 435 W. Beauregard Ave. San Angelo, TX 76903. The funeral service will be held at Johnson Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 27, 2021. Interment will follow in Johnson's Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
