

James “Jim” Coffey, 78 of San Angelo, Texas passed away on August 27, 2022. He was born on June 14, 1944, in Austin, Texas, to Sam B. and ML (Thurman) Coffey. Jim graduated from Junction High School and later, enlisted in the United States Air Force. After almost 4 years in the service, Jim was honorably discharged and went on to attend UT Austin, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree. He later earned his Master’s Degree from UT El Paso. Jim began his career in education, working for Region 15 ESC as a consultant. He retired in 2013, after 39 years with them.
Jim married Carla (Murr) Coffey in September of 1966. Together they had 2 children. He enjoyed writing books, playing guitar, and spending time with his family.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Sam; his nieces, Susan, Peggy, Susan and Michelle; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, and his sister-in-law, Wanda.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of almost 56 years, Carla Coffey; his children, Joshua Coffey and wife Kassie, and Ethan Coffey; his grandchildren, Khyleigh Coffey and Stetson Coffey, his sister, Ann Coffey; his nephew, Lee Wallace; his niece, Kathy Hair and husband Bob, and his nephew, Mike Coffey and family. He is also survived by his sister-in-laws, Dodie Whitworth and family and Judy Coffey, as well as many friends.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 3rd from 1-3 pm at San Angelo Fire Department Union Hall – 15 West Beauregard Ave., San Angelo, Texas.
