Jamie was born in San Angelo, Texas, on December 9, 1940, to Tom and Della Mathews Schooler. He grew up on a small farm and ranch in Robert Lee, Texas, was baptized there and attended Pecan Baptist Church. Jamie married Jerrie Kaye Teague on April 11, 1968 and together they shared 45 wonderful years. With marriage and a family, he moved his church membership to Sierra Vista United Methodist Church.
Jamie graduate from North Texas State University in 1963 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. After graduation he was drafted into the United States Army, serving for two years at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. Jamie began a long and happy career with GTE in 1966, working in Human Resources at their Johnson Street office. By working hard he was able to take an early retirement after 25 years of service with the phone company in December 1991, and he took great pleasure in his retirement years.
Jamie was a wonderful and dedicated provider for his family. Growing up, his family had endured the harsh drought of the 1950s, prompting him to seek a future outside of agriculture. He was practical and industrious and clear-minded, always able to offer sound advice when asked. He loved to read Western novels and work on his cars, and especially loved to tinker with his Ford Broncos. Most of all Jamie loved to travel with his wife and family, and we were very fortunate to share many fun and memorable trips with him throughout the U.S. and Caribbean. He had a great love for nature and the outdoors and particularly enjoyed his travels to the mountains and national parks of the western U.S. He was a mostly quiet and unassuming man with a quick wit, and a laugh and smile that will be dearly missed.
Jamie was preceded in death by both parents. He is survived by his wife, Jerri, daughter Kathy, son, Steven, brothers Van Schooler and his wife, Fredda, Don Joel Schooler, and his wife, better, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Arrangements are by Johnson’s Funeral Home with viewing from 8:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. daily. Funeral Service will be Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at 10:00 A.M.
