Janice Phillips Phillips Eatmon

Janice was born May 9th, 1934 to Cary L. Phillips and Martha Crymes Phillips in Monroe, Louisiana. She attended public schools in West Monroe and Monroe, La where she discovered her love of teaching. In Monroe, she met the love of her life, James (Jim) Eatmon, her junior year in high school. After graduating from North East Louisiana State College in May of 1955 to become a teacher, she and Jim were married on June 3rd, 1955. She is also the proud mother of two boys, Devin and Nick.

Janice taught in public school in Springhill and Haughton La, until 1982 when she moved to San Angelo, Texas and taught at Crockett Elementary. She loved children, being in the classroom and opening a world of wonder to all of her students. Janice retired in 1999 after almost 40 years in public education.

Some of her favorite things included Snoopy, wildflowers, roses, Cocker Spaniels, traveling to see new and historical places and her beloved Dallas Cowboys.

She is survived by her husband, James, her eldest son Devin and her younger son and daughter in law, Nick and Misty as well as various family members across the United States. She was preceded in death by her parents Cary L. Phillips and Martha Crymes Phillips and sister, Dorothy Phillips Mock.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Hospice of San Angelo, and Park Plaza Nursing Home and staff for the loving care and concern they showed.

Her smile, sense of humor and the love she showed for everyone will be deeply missed.

Service is planned at 10 a.m., Saturday, October 16, 2010 at Johnson’s Funeral Home chapel in San Angelo. Burial will be at LawnHaven Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson’s Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jan Eatmon’s name to Hospice of San Angelo or your favorite charity.
