

Jennie Mae Allen, age 102, passed from this life on February 8 at her residence in San Angelo. She was born on May 27, 1921 in Crosbyton, Texas to Oscar Benton McClure and Katie Colleen McClure. Her family lived in several locations around Texas during her childhood before settling in New Home where she graduated from high school. During her freshman year at Wayland College, a handsome young farmer named Clyde Allen caught her eye, and they were married on December 7, 1940. They immediately began life on his farm in Tahoka where they were active in First Baptist Church and their community until their retirement in 1978 when they moved to Baptist Retirement Community in San Angelo.
During their retirement years, they enjoyed RV travel all over the United States and parts of Canada. They were also active in the Baptist Auxiliary at Baptist Retirement Community, where Jennie served for a time as president. Church life was always at the heart of their activities. During the early years in San Angelo, the Allens were active in mission work and young adult ministry, first at Immanuel Baptist Church and later at First Baptist Church. Jennie was known for her hospitality, and loved cooking and serving others.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clyde; a son, Royce Weldon Allen, and her brother, B.J. McClure. She is survived by one daughter, Carol Beall and her husband, John, of Morgantown, West Virginia; her sister Evelyn Lee of San Angelo; a grandson, Stephen Beall of Plano, Texas and his wife Cecile, a granddaughter, Katherine Simpson and her husband, James, of Davidsonville, Maryland; and two great grandsons Samuel and Matthew Simpson.
The family is grateful to the staff at Allison House at Baptist Retirement Community for their loving care during the past eight years, and to Hospice of San Angelo. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 12 at Baptist Retirement Community Chapel with burial to follow at Lawnhaven cemetery.
