She was born on January 3, 1974 in San Angelo to Dawn Cumbie Burwick and Robert Glenn Burwick. Shay attended Bronte High School and graduated in the class of 1992. She went on to obtain her Bachelor’s Degree at Angelo State in Psychology.
Shay was a loving mom to two beautiful children whom she cherished to her core. She was also a wonderful aunt to her nieces and nephews who thought the world of her. She was the best big sister that anyone could have as well as a beautiful, loving, and caring daughter a parent could ever ask for.
Shay loved gardening, crafts, hanging balloons on birthdays, picking pecans, going to her “second home” – the lake house at Amistad where she spent countless hours finding shells to craft with. Above all, she enjoyed being with her children and family making memories to last a lifetime.
She was welcomed in Heaven by her paternal grandparents – Therell and Lillie Burwick; maternal grandfather, Edward Cumbie; brother, Darin Burwick; and niece, Lillie Burwick.
Shay is survived by her husband Doug Mitchell, daughter Addison Mitchell, son Mac Mitchell all of San Angelo; father Glenn Burwick (second mom Tanya) of Blackwell, mother Dawn Cumbie Burwick of San Angelo, sister Lindsey Brown (Sean), and brother Zac Burwick, all of Blackwell; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Shay’s Family would like to thank the staff of Shannon Medical Center – Dr. Sarah Burkes, Dr. Zarate, Dr. Perez-Povis, and Dr. Perett, as well as the nurses who lovingly cared for her during her stay. The Family would also like to thank all who have kept her in your prayers over the last year.
A viewing will be held from 6-8 PM on Friday, May 20, 2022 at Johnson’s Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at First Baptist of Bronte with burial to follow at Blackwell Cemetery.
