Jimmie married Betty on April 3, 1948 and had 2 children.
Before becoming an electrician he served in the US Navy. He began his career as an electrician working for Hamner Electric and then Three Rivers Electric. Jimmie was a proud member of the local IBEW 898 for 65 years, helping organize the local IBEW and holding multiple offices.
He had a passion in his 20s for stock car racing, but his main love was fishing. He introduced his grandkids and great grandkids to fishing. He will always be remembered for his quick wit and laugh, and was famous for shelling pecans and sharing those with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his dad Roma Varner, mom Thelma and aunt Clydie Spoon.
Jimmie is survived by Betty Varner (wife), son James and wife Jan, daughter Diana Krug and husband Robert, 3 grandkids: Karen and Mike King of Flower Mound, TX, Brook and Jessica Varner of Andrews, TX, and Luke and Whitney Varner of Justin, TX; and 7 great grandkids (Alex, Colin, Campbell, Hudson, Walker, Emma, and Tate).
Services will be held at Johnson Funeral Home Wednesday, January 6, 2021.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a memorial donation in Jimmie’s name to American Heart Association or your favorite charity. Family and friends may sign an online guestbook at www.johnsons-funeralhome.com
