Joe David Brooks, age 70, of San Angelo, passed away Friday, May 24, 2018 at The Springs Memory Care Center in San Angelo. He was born November 1, 1947 in San Angelo, the son of Clifton and Lillian White Brooks.
Joe graduated from San Angelo Central High School in 1966 and later from Southern Methodist University in 1970 receiving his BBA degree. He then continued his education by gaining a Master’s degree in Divinity from Perkins School of Theology at SMU in 1991 and another Master’s degree in Education from Texas Tech University in 1995. He was a rancher in Irion and Crockett Counties for many years. He also served as County Commissioner after being elected in 1974 and serving until 1978 and then in 2000 was appointed to fill an unexpired term of a commissioner who passed away. He was a member of St. Paul Presbyterian Church and served in the Texas Army National Guard as a medic.
He is survived by his sons Jason Honea of San Angelo and James Brooks of Austin, his brothers, Larry Brooks of Austin and William “Bill” Brooks of Broomfield, Colorado. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Steve Brooks of Nederland, Colorado, Kathy Kirkman, Colton Brooks, and Karen Goldapp all of Austin, Darby Heckel of Littleton, Colorado, and Whitney Brooks of Aurora, Colorado.

Graveside services will be held at 11 am Saturday, June 2, at Fairmount Cemetery with burial to follow under the direction of Johnson’s Funeral Home.
