A celebration of Johnnie’s life will be held at Johnson’s Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 29th and a graveside service to follow at Fairmount Cemetery.
Johnnie was born on February 6, 1928 in San Angelo. He grew up on the family ranch east of Iraan. He married his soulmate, Peggie, on March 27, 1953 in Big Lake, Texas. In the early 1960s, Johnnie sought the Lord for direction for himself and his family. Through his relationship with Jesus Christ, he had the courage to make changes in his life.
After getting his degree from Texas Tech University in 1965, the family moved to the ranch and he taught science and math in the Iraan-Sheffield School District for twenty-four years.
Johnnie loved teaching to all ages, whether it was in the classroom or the roping arena. His nickname to those close to him was “Johnnie Rope” because of his total commitment to education and the advancement of rodeo.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Kemper and Laura (Gramma Dear) McMullan, grandson Beau Dean McMullan and nephew Shawn McMullan. He is survived by his wife Peggie, son Dean and wife Deb, son David and wife Mary, and daughter Lee and husband Mike Kelly, son Johnny and wife Cindy Middleton. Grandchildren include Tate McMullan and wife Amber, Deak McMullan, Tessie and husband Blake Doyle, Lillian and husband Jess Seward, and Arlis McMullan, Erin Kelly, Jacob Kelly, Kim and husband Jim Fishpaw, Lauren and husband Cody Craig, and great-grandchildren Quinton McMullan, Victoria, Raegan and Kellan Fishpaw and Ellie Rhea Craig.
