

Jonnie Alta Pearl Corbell was born June 26, 1924, and passed away Dec. 15, 2014, at the age of 90.She was the daughter of Charles Edward ""Jack"" and Bertha Owens Corbell. Her parents and her siblings: Ruby Corbell-Wooley, Edward Burleson ""Burley"" Corbell, Robert Elwayne ""Boots"" Corbel, Winnie Corbell-Niedzwiecki and Billy Jack Corbell and her nephews, Charles Lee Corbell and Jerry Don Niedzwiecki preceded her in death.Jonnie is survived by her nieces and nephews, Bonnie Corbell Broyles, Judy Corbell Cain and husband Tony and Kay Corbell Farquhar and husband Bobby; Sheila Niedzwiecki-Trahan and husband Mike, Allen Corbell, Karen Corbell-Hitt and Mike, Tanya, Joy and David and Melanie Corbell, Billy Charles and Brenda Bess, Bridgette and Belinda Corbell; dozens of great-nieces and nephews; and also, her dear friends, Rod and Joyce Meister, who were very helpful to her in the last few years of her life.Jonnie led a busy and interesting life. She worked as a ""Rosie the Riveter"" during World War II, building airplanes for the war effort. After the war she returned to San Angelo and at some point established an upholstery business. She played third base for ""The San Angelo Red Chicks"" team in the Woman's Softball League during the late '40s and early '50s, where she made many lifelong friendships. She was also active in the Antique Car Club.Jonnie carried on the family tradition of ranching. She was part owner of a ranch at Sherwood, with her brother, Billy Jack and she later bought a place near Grape Creek, Texas, where she raised goats.Jonnie was a 43-year-member of Immanuel Baptist Church.A viewing will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, at Johnson's Funeral Home, The chapel service will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, at Johnson's Funeral Home.
