He was born on September 27, 1935, in Montgomery, Alabama to his parents Benjamin Franklin and Cathleen Elizabeth Ethington. Where he attended high school and later joined the United States Air Force in 1955.
While at Goodfellow Air Force Base, his first permanent assignment, Ernie went on a blind double date and met the love of his life. Ernie and Yuva Sue Williams were married on April 14, 1957. Two years later in 1959 they would be blessed with their oldest son, Gregory Ernest (Greg), then blessed again with the youngest son, Berry Andrew (Drew) in 1964.
His military career would take him to various places around the world and circle him back once again to Goodfellow Air Force Base. Where in 1975 he would retire and settled with his family in San Angelo, TX. After retiring, Ernie and Sue went to work at GTE and would retire together in December 1991.
During his years in San Angelo, Ernie was an avid participant of both his boys sporting events, which included many years at Eastern Little League Baseball where he touched many lives volunteering as a coach, board member, and umpire. Later in life he would come to enjoy watching both his Grand & Great Grandchildren participate in their sporting events. Not only was he a proud and honorable Veteran, but he also spent more than 50 years as a brother Mason of several lodges including Paint Rock #613, Concho #1260, and Phil Head #1415. He was also a dedicated member of Suez Shriners and Scottish Rite of Freemasonry.
Anyone who knew Ernie, knew his never ending love and faith in Jesus Christ. He and Sue were members at Wesley Trinity United Methodist Church in San Angelo, TX.
