

She was born July 15, 1957 in Dallas, Texas to Lester E. Smith, Jr. and Nancy Lewis Smith. She grew up in San Angelo but graduated from St. Mary’s Hall in San Antonio.
She earned her first bachelor’s degree in Commercial Photography from Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara, California. She remained in California for several years becoming a scuba instructor and owning her own dive shop.
She returned to Texas where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology from Texas A&M Galveston. She went on to obtain her teaching credentials and taught high school Chemistry and Physics in San Antonio. Because of her love for education she moved to Corpus Christi to pursue a master’s degree in Biology. Upon receiving her master’s she worked for the Center for Coastal Studies at Texas A&M Corpus where she was the regional coordinator for The National Ocean Science Bowl.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Arch and Mattie Lewis; her paternal grandparents Lester E. Sr. and Leone Smith, and her mother Nancy Lewis Smith.
She is survived by her father Lester E. Smith, Jr.; her sister Windy Smith; an aunt, and several cousins.
