

He was born to Lilia “Lily” Howard and Celestino “Tino” Amancio Hinojos on January 22, 1951 in Odessa, TX. He was raised in Big Spring, TX, graduating from Big Spring High School in 1969, where he played the saxophone in the School Band, and enjoyed cruising his Blue 55' Chevy up and down Gregg Street.
After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, where he served his country from 1970 - 1974, earning The National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Rifle Sharpshooter Badge. He was assigned to the USMC 3rd Marine Infantry Division based in Okinawa, Japan.
Lewis was always a hardworker. After the military, he specialized in masonry work and built Gunite swimming pools for his family's local business. He was a skilled finisher, a certfied HVAC technician, and dabbled in auto mechanics. In his later years, he was quite the handyman and could be found in his yard repairing lawnmowers and bicycles for friends, family, and neighbors; while listening to his favorite oldies and rock 'n' roll music. Throughout his life he enjoyed archery, throwing axes, and knives for sport. He truly loved his dogs and would never let a neighborhood cat go hungry. He always loved to read and could find the answer to any question in his library of books he collected, along with the many other treasures he collected. Lewis spent alot of his time studying his Bible and when he wasn't reading it, he enjoyed watching sermons on TV. He was baptized on August 16, 2021 at Word of Life Assembly in San Angelo, TX. He was proud to have accomplished 20 years of sobriety in the end of his life. He was a wise, loving, one of a kind Grandpa, who was a true friend. His memory will always be cherished by those close to him.
He is survived by his wife of 28 yrs.; Sinda Hinojos, and four daughters;
April (George) Silva of Colorado Springs, CO, Amber (Arturo) Herrera of San Angelo, TX, Kelly (Abel) Diaz of White Rock, NM
Jamie (Dan) Eaton of The Woodlands, TX,
and one son; Lewis T. Hinojos Jr., of Midland, TX.
He is also survived by three sisters,
Lisa Carreher, Lilia “Girl” Hughes, Joanna Weaver, one brother, Rene Hinojos.
He is proceeded in death by his mother Lilia “Lily” Howard, his father, Celestino “Tino” Amancio Hinojos, his son Daniel Hinojos, grandparents, Francisco and Juana Fernandez, Jose and Concepcion Hinojos.
A memorial service for Lewis will be held Friday, December 31, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Johnson's Funeral Home, 435 W Beauregard Ave, San Angelo.
