

On February 3, 2022, Linda R. Whatley passed peacefully in her sleep at the age of 83 after a 10-year battle with dementia. Linda was preceded in death by her husband Del Whatley of Grape Creek, TX, her sister Veda Perkins, of San Angelo, TX, and her parents, Rufus and Lorene Smith.
Linda is survived by her sons, Chad Phillips and wife Deidra Phillips of San Angelo, TX.; Kurt Phillips of Stillwater, OK; her step children, Monica Kincer and Brenda Whatley; her sister, Vivien Fortenberry of Lubbock, TX; her granddaughter, Hannah and husband, Davis Woodfin, and her great granddaughter, Hadleigh Woodfin of San Angelo, TX.; as well as nieces and nephews.
Linda was born on September 30, 1939, in Lamesa, Texas. She graduated from Lubbock High School. Linda worked as a bookkeeper in various industries around Plainview, Texas. Later, Linda met her husband Del Whatley and together they moved to San Angelo. They spent many happy years traveling together, helping others, and loving their children and grandchildren.
After Del’s death Linda continued serving her community in church, delivering Meals on Wheels and was an advocate for nursing home residents. Linda was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, music and dancing, and serving her Lord. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
There will be a graveside service at 1 pm, on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at Fairmount Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the West Texas Boys Ranch at WTBR.org. The family would like to send a special “Thank You” to the staff at Cedar Manor, especially Maria Dominguez.
