He developed long lasting friendships with many prisoners who communicated with him for many years after leaving Prison Ministry. He was named an honorary Chaplain at one point during this ministry, an honor he deeply cherished. Upon arriving in San Angelo, Texas, he eventually became a volunteer in a local ministry taking the elderly who could not drive to and from doctor appointments and other places they needed to go. He was recognized by the ministry after he had provided over 300 assignments to assist those in need of transportation. He concluded this ministry when he turned 90 years old.
