Mary Lou Williams, 92, went home to be with the Lord Monday, December 5, 2016. Mary was the mother of three, grandmother of eleven, great grandmother of ten, great-great grandmother of two, and wife of John Bernard (Johnny) Williams for almost 70 years. She was a friend of many in San Angelo, Amarillo, Lubbock, Midland and other areas, where they both were always active members of their local Baptist Church. Mary was a real estate broker and sales manager with her own office in Canyon and San Angelo, Texas. She also worked in the bookkeeping office at Jim Bass Ford in San Angelo and was a volunteer for over a decade at San Angelo Community Medical Center.
Johnny and Mary lived in San Angelo when they were first married for a short while and moved back on July 4, 1976 and have lived here ever since. Together, Johnny and Mary used their real estate skills to develop the Ducote Airpark flying community just west of town where they lived for nearly 40 years with other like-minded flying enthusiasts and their families.
Mary lived a good long life and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was an avid fisherwoman, collector of antiques, and loved watching the Texas vs. Oklahoma football games where she of course rooted for Oklahoma. Mary also thoroughly enjoyed formula car races, especially the Indianapolis 500 that we always watched. She travelled with Johnny extensively for 10 years in their travel trailer throughout the United States, Canada, and flew to Europe on one trip to visit friends. On many of their trips throughout the U.S. they were happily accompanied by their sister-in-law, Aline Williams (deceased), also of San Angelo.
She has lived at the Sagecrest/Greenhouses Alzheimer’s Community, part of Baptist Memorial, in San Angelo, for the last 8 ½ years where she received the love, skilled care and devoted attention from many dedicated caregivers. Mary’s family is deeply grateful for the loving care she has received at Sagecrest and offers their thanks to the many individuals who showed their love for her, Johnny, and any friends and family that came to visit.
Mary was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, Johnny; her brother, Buren Ballard of Bay, Arkansas; and her sister Geneva Howard of Norman, Oklahoma. She is survived by her two sons from Fort Worth, TX, Benny Joe (Jody) Williams and John D. (Buddy) Williams, her daughter Patricia (Trish) Williams-Mello from Albuquerque, NM, many grandchildren, great grandchildren and two great-great granddaughters.
A celebration of life memorial will be held at Johnson’s Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 2:00 PM. At Johnny and Mary’s request a viewing and grave side service will not be held. The family is grateful to all of Mary’s many hundreds of friends and family and asks that in lieu of flowers that you make a contribution to the Sagecrest/Greenhouses Alzheimer’s Community, the Salvation Army, or a charity of your choice. Please pray for her family and friends at this time.
Family and friends may express condolences and sign the online guest book at www.johnsons-funeralhome.com.
