Opal I. “Kitty” Floyd left this earth and took her spot in heaven on the morning of November 29, 2013, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born on a farm in Millburn, TX February 18th, 1930 to William and Minnie Pinson. She married Charles A. Floyd on April 16, 1949 and they made their home here in San Angelo, Texas. Kitty was a devout Christian and a long time active member of Grape Creek Baptist Church. She spent most of the last forty years of her life in the Grape Creek community where she served in a number of volunteer roles. She had unconditional love for her family and friends. Her strength, loyalty, kindness, compassion and especially her faith, of which she shared with everyone, were unmatched. Kitty was preceded in death by her parents W.P. and Minnie Pinson, her husband of forty-one years Charles A. Floyd; brothers Pat and Garland “Mutt” Pinson and her sister and closest lifelong friend Wilma “Willie” Smith.
She is survived by her son Mike and wife Julie of Frisco, Texas; Steve and wife Asyna of San Angelo; Daughter Patty and her husband Joel Percifull of Robert Lee. Grandchildren Jana Conaway of North Richland Hills, Gary Floyd of San Angelo, Christopher Floyd of San Angelo, Jenny Bair of Dallas and Erika Stenstrom of Dallas and Taylor Percifull of Robert Lee. Great Grandchildren Jade, Kane, Mikayla, Carsyn, Colt, Rancie, and Maya.
Kitty was always a good student and a dedicated employee. In 1962 she had the honor of becoming the first female officer at Central National Bank in San Angelo, but retired from banking in 1973. Kitty recognized her primary mission on earth which was to be a devoted wife and mother based on biblical principles. She was a spiritual leader of her family, friends and all who would listen. Anyone that shared much time with Kitty always referred to her as “Their Rock.”
Reading crossword puzzles and especially scrabble were Kitty’s pleasures. We are sure there is a spirited game of scrabble between Kitty, Charles, Bill and Willie going on in Heaven right now.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Robert Lee Care Center, Odyssey Hospice and the many caring friends for their prayers, love and support during this time. May God bless each of you.
A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, December 2, 2013 at Fairmount Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers Kitty would have wanted your donations to the Christian charity of your choice Family and friends may sign the online registry book at Johnsons-funeralhome.com
