Patrick Henry Kasberg, 76, went to be with the Lord Thursday, March 10, at home, following a recent illness. Pat is survived by his wife of nearly 13 years, Dorothy, his 3 daughters- Lisa Abbott, Kari Mikeska, Wendy Roach, 2 step-daughters- Terri Eisenbach and Renee Eaton. He also leaves behind grandchildren- Haylee, Hannah, Gavin, Nathan, Natalie, Mattie Kate, Mason and Bret, along with 4 great-grandchildren-Dakota, Garrett, Sawyer, and Braxton.
Pat was born June 23, 1945 to Sylvester & Jimmie Kasberg. He graduated from Miles High School in 1963, attended ASU, and joined the Army National Guard where he served for 8 years. He managed his family’s cotton gin for many years, working alongside his dad. Pat built, owned and operated the only convenience store in Miles for several years, and was a jack of many trades throughout his life- crop sprayer, house painter, renovator, and collector. Pat could BBQ the best brisket and enjoyed cooking for his girls’ school fundraisers and local civic functions. In 1976, he along with some friends, started the 1st Annual BBQ Cook-Off as a fundraiser for the sesquicentennial Miles Cotton Festival, which has evolved into the yearly invitational event it is today.
Pat was a true sportsman. He loved the outdoors, was an avid deer & bird hunter, an excellent skeet shooter, and a fisherman. He loved deep-sea fishing in Port Aransas, as well as fishing closer to home. In his more recent years, he had become quite a keen picker at garage and estate sales and thoroughly enjoyed the hunting, fixing up, and cleaning up his finds and reselling them with his bestie, Renee. He loved collecting guns, knives, Fenton glassware, a Windberg painting or two, and finding a bargain on pretty much anything else!
Pat had a quirky sense of humor and couldn’t carry on a conversation without making a joke or trying to get a rise or laugh from you. He will be missed by those who love him, two special friends- Rodney & Todd, and those who really got to know him.
There will be a small celebration of Pat’s life for any friends and close family who wish to gather, eat BBQ, and share memories, Sunday, March 13th at 4:00 pm.- 644 Cedarwood Dr.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
