Reyes Muela Menchaca Sr., age 74 passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2022. Reyes was born February 20, 1948 in San Angelo, Texas to Elias and Soledad Menchaca. Reyes attended San Angelo Central High School and graduated in the class of 1967.
Reyes, or “Pop” as his family called him, was drafted into the United States Marine Corps in 1969. He would fulfill his duties in Vietnam and return home to an honorable discharge in 1972. He spoke fondly of the Corps and the great men he befriended. Especially the friends he lost. Dad had a couple of jobs before taking over his beloved wrecking yard, Menchaca Auto Wrecking. He would make lifetime friends and share so many memories with everyone and anyone that would stop by. It was also through the yard that he would help so many. He never sent anyone away that needed help. He always showed true compassion and will be remembered fondly for it.
Soon after he would meet and marry the love of his life, Angie Holguin, in March of 1975. The love they shared was unconditional and will last 10 lifetimes. Mom was his world and that was always on display anywhere they went. Dad adored her and leaving her was the last thing he wanted. Family barbecues and get togethers are what made him so happy. There was never too much family around for Pop. He wanted everyone there and if you weren’t family, you were by the end of the day. He made sure to call all his brothers and sisters at least once a week. He looked forward to it so much… but his grandchildren and great grandchildren are what brought him the most joy. Dad was good at many things, but he was the absolute best at being a father and grandfather. That is just who he was and why he was so very loved by all. He went to any length to make sure his family, especially his babies, were always taken care of. Pop was a true family man to the very end and we will honor his legacy by preserving his passion for family and helping others.
