

Roy Lennefelt, age 94, departed this life at his home on Wednesday, December 6, 2017. Roy was born June 18, 1923 in Hermosa Beach California to Henry and Mary Lennefelt. He grew up in the Los Angeles area and married his hometown sweetheart Jean Spears Lennefelt in 1945. They were married 65 years.
Roy enlisted in the Navy one day after the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. During the war Roy was stationed on the Minneapolis until it took four torpedoes from a Japanese submarine. After that he served with the Marines on the islands around Japan. After World War II, Roy served in the Korean and Vietnam wars. Roy’s naval assignments took him and his family to Japan, Hawaii, Cypress and to various duties in the U.S. including Goodfellow AFB in San Angelo, TX. After he retired from the Navy, he joined the Civil Service as an advisor to the Department of the Air Force at Goodfellow AFB and served in that intelligence community until his retirement in 1979. He received the award for Meritorious Medal of Honor for his Civilian Service from the Department of the Air Force.
Roy was an outdoor enthusiast. He loved to golf and play tennis. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed West Texas for all the hunting and fishing opportunities. He built a cabin on the Colorado River in East Texas after his retirement and that became his and Jean’s second home.
Roy was preceded in death by his wife Jean; son Wayne Lennefelt; granddaughter Bergen Lennefelt; two brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by his son Craig and wife Beverly (Socha) Lennefelt; grandchildren Leslie Davis, Lara Padgett & husband Jerod, Matt Lennefelt, Allison Lennefelt; great-grandchildren Deacon Davis, Reese and Robbie Smith, Gus Padgett, Mason Mealer; sister Laura Coles.
There will be a gathering of family and friends at Johnson’s Funeral Home, Saturday December 9, from 4:00 until 6:00 PM
