Ruby Irene “Blondie” Hord, age 87, born March 2, 1934 to Howell and Jessie Bowen on the family farm in Wilmeth, Texas. Ruby went to be with the Lord on January 4, 2022. Ruby grew up working on the farm and going to a one room school house, where she graduated from. She met her husband, Rance, who preceded her in death, at a family dance. They shared 59 years of marriage. Ruby lived most of her married life in Sterling City where she and Rance raised their four children. Ruby went back to school to get her LVN degree after her children were in school. She found fulfillment in her job at the Sterling County Hospital then went to Sterling City ISD as the school nurse for many years. Ruby supported her children and grandchildren in all their activities. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, her son Ronald, grandson Ronald Ian Hord, her brothers and sister-in-laws; Charlie and LaVerne Bowen, Gene and Lucille Bowen, her sisters, Rosie and Christine, her brother-in-law Robert Gartman. Ruby is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Butch and Pearl Bowen of Winters and her sister Louise Gartman of San Angelo. Her children, Randy and Beth Hord of Sterling City, Ross and Cheryl Hord of Medina, Renea and Joseph Sudolcan of Big Lake, daughter-in-law Karen Hord of San Angelo. She leaves behind ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. We want to thank Renea for the years of loving care for Mom, as well as, Hospice of San Angelo and Reagan County Care Center. A celebration of Ruby’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, January 7, 2022 at First Baptist Church, Sterling City with interment to follow in Montvale Cemetery.
