

Veda Lavoyne Perkins, 80, of San Angelo died on August 8, 2011. Veda was born on May 12, 1931 at home in Memphis, Hall County, Texas. She graduated from High School in Lubbock, TX. Veda married her husband Billie Gene Perkins, Sr. on August 27, 1947 and they raised three children together. They moved to San Angelo in 1963 where they owned and operated two businesses, Morton Foods Distributing and Armstrong McCall Beauty Supply. She was preceded in death by her parents, R.V. and Lorene Smith and her husband Billy Perkins, SR. Veda is survived by her sisters, Vivian Fortenberry and husband Calvin, and Linda Whatley; her children, Jeanene McCain, Valene Fields and husband Vance, and Billy Perkins, Jr. and wife Diana; her grandchildren, Skip McCain, Stacey Cox, Matt Fields, and Whitney Perkins; as well as several great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many other loving family and friends. Veda was a talented quilter and cook. She will be remembered fondly for her delicious chocolate pies. She was also a member of Southgate Church of Christ. Veda was a devoted, loving Mother. She made a lasting impact on family and friends with her strength, independence and faith. The Funeral Service will be held at Johnson’s Funeral Home, Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. with Paul Shero officiating. The Graveside service will be held at Center Point Cemetery, St. Jo, Montague County, TX on Thursday, August 11, 2011 at 10:00 A.M., with Austin Wright officiating. Memorials can be made to the National Alzheimer’s Association or the American Cancer Society.
