

William “Al” Carter, 70, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2012 in Baptist Memorial House of Hope surrounded by family. A military graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2012 in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Johnson’s Funeral Home.
Al was born on October 17, 1941 to William Paul and Mary Katherine (Seago) Carter in Wellington, Texas. He served in the Army 101st Airborne during the Vietnam War from 1968-1969, where he was wounded on May 11, 1969 at Hamburger Hill. Al resided in the Dumas area until 1972 when he moved to San Angelo, TX.
Al is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and a sister.
Surviving Al is his wife Peggy Carter; children William Terry Carter, Rhonda Lynn Morris and husband Len, Jessica Robin Broyles and husband Terry, Tara Lynn Matthews and husband Brian, Christa Marie Vann and Husband Allen and Timothy David Carter; 10 grandchildren Shauna, Kyle, Dottie, Hannah, Adia, Ayden, Janelle, Janice, Oakley and Rian Kemp Pa-Paw’s special little buddy; 7 great grandchildren; 2 sisters Sharon Burnett and husband Mike and Kay Blake and husband Bill and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to send special thanks to Dr. Chris Barnett and the 6th floor nurses at Shannon and the 4th and 5th floor nurses and social workers at Shannon, as well as the nursing staff of Division 5 at Baptist Memorial Retirement Center and the hospice staff for going above and beyond. A special thank you to Girling Home Health for the loving care they gave him, especially Debbie Wood.
