Willis Weber, 79, passed away on Sunday, January 16, 2011 in San Angelo. Willis was a Christian man, and a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was born on July 25, 1931 in Gotebo, Oklahoma, the oldest child of Marvin and Sadie Weber. He was a 1949 graduate of Abilene High School, and served in the U. S. Navy from 1950 to 1954. Willis married Mary Floyd on May 18, 1956 in Weatherford, Texas. He graduated from Hardin-Simmons University in 1958 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, and soon after began working for GTE in San Angelo. He retired from GTE in 1992 after 34 years of service.
Willis was a past member of the Kiwanis Club in Brownfield, Texas, where he accompanied underprivileged boys to summer camp. He was a former Little League baseball coach, and a volunteer for Code Blue, the Shannon Auxiliary, and a number of local track meets. Willis enjoyed golf and was an avid sports fan. He supported many of the ASU sports teams, and enjoyed watching high school sports as well.
Willis’s grandchildren have many memories to cherish of times spent fishing, going to Neff’s Amusement Park, swimming, gathering pecans, playing card games, and “summer camp”. He enjoyed attending their sporting events, performances, graduations, etc. Willis loved to play with his grandchildren and clearly enjoyed spending time with them as they grew up.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Willis is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Weber, of San Angelo; son Scott Weber and wife Cynthia of Bedford, Texas, son Greg Weber and wife Diane of San Angelo, daughter Jodi Weber and husband Matt Varnum of Eugene, Oregon; granddaughters Leigh Ellen Weber of Addison, Elizabeth Weber of Dallas, Chelsea Weber of Lubbock, Leah Yeager of Springfield, Oregon, and Julia Yeager of Portland, Oregon,; sister Mary Ann Smith and husband John of Hurst; sister-in-law Beverly Ragsdale and husband Bob of Bronte; aunt Ila Verne Clark of Chandler, Oklahoma; as well as many cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.
