

Al was born in 1951 to Ignacio and Consuelo Campos in San Antonio, Texas. After graduating from Jefferson High School Al joined the Air Force Reserve at the age of 19 and began a long term career as a Loadmaster.
Al started his career with the 433rd Tactical Airlift Wing stationed at Kelly AFB in San Antonio. He was initially qualified as a C130 Loadmaster and subsequently upgraded to an Instructor Loadmaster. Al was later selected for the Air Reserve Technician (ART) Program which required Al to relocate to Minneapolis-St Paul, Minnesota where he served with the 934th Airlift Wing. He flew many missions while with the 934th which coincided with the Vietnam War. After serving several years with the 934th, Al returned to the 433rd and was selected as a C130 MAFFS (Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System) Loadmaster and flew many firefighting missions. In 1985, the 433rd became the first Air Force Reserve wing to fly the C-5A Galaxy, the largest USAF operational aircraft. Al was upgraded to Flight Examiner and was the first Loadmaster to be selected to attend C-5 Loadmaster school from the 68th Airlift Squadron and helped the wing make the conversion to the C-5A Galaxy. Al was selected to the initial cadre for the SCM aircraft (space cargo modified C-5A) and was a member of the team selected to develop loading procedures at Vandenberg AFB CA, with the technician from Lockheed Missile and Space Corp. As part of this effort Al was instrumental in the transport of the Hubble Space Telescope.
Al was called to active duty several times during Desert Storm/Desert Shield. During his career, Al logged over 10,000 flying hours, flew 30+ combat missions, and participated in several humanitarian and hurricane relief missions. Al retired as a Master Sergeant after a long successful military career.
Al, alias “Greasy Rider”, was an avid motorcycle rider and Harley-Davidson enthusiast. He enjoyed traveling the world and visited many countries making friends in each locale along the way. Al will be best remembered for his unwavering loyalty to friends and family and for being a snappy dresser.
Al is predeceased by his parents, brother Joe Campos, sister Janie Moseley, nephew Dennis Campos, sister in law Linda Campos, and brother in law Gary Moseley. He is survived by his brother Ignacio “Nitch” Campos, niece Vanessa Campos, and nephew Casey Campos and family - wife Amy and sons Jaden, Casey Jr., and Brandon.
Services and reception will be held at Porter Loring Mortuary North on November 15, 2022. Services commence at 10:00 AM. Reception will follow at 11:00 AM. Procession will start at 1:00 PM for military funeral honors at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:45 PM.
