

Alexander Hamilton Oliver, known affectionately as “Olie”, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2024 surrounded by his family. He was born on April 28, 1945, in the small town of Refugio, Texas to Gale Oliver, Jr and Frances Hamilton Oliver.Alex’s early years in Refugio laid the foundation for a lifetime of achievement and passion. He graduated Salutatorian from Refugio High School and spent his freshman year of college at William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. He transferred to the University of Texas at Austin (Plan II Honors) where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting. He went on to earn his J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law. His career included working as an Accountant, Estate Planner and Tax Law Attorney.
Family was the most important thing to Alex. His story began when he met and married Nancé 50 years ago. Together they raised a family that mirrored their values and warmth. His children and grandchildren were the most cherished things in his life.Alex enjoyed listening to orchestral music, found solace in the pages of a good book and loved to travel, especially when it involved creating unforgettable memories with his grandchildren. The ranch in Cheapside, TX and the house on lake LBJ were his sanctuaries, places where he could unwind in the beauty of nature and the simplicity of life. He was an enthusiastic fan of UT football and his grandson’s sports, cheering them on at all of their games. He also took great pleasure in watching his youngest grandchildren play and learn to swim in the backyard pool.
Alex was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity at UT, Beta Gamma Sigma, The Texas Bar Association, the American Bar Association, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Texas Society of CPAs, Club Giraud, The Argyle and San Antonio Rotary Club.
Alex was preceded in death by his parents Frances and Gale Oliver Jr., his brother Gale Oliver III and wife Gay. He is survived by his wife Nancé Anderson Oliver, his daughters Clare Oliver Duffin (Donald) and Amory Oliver Felder (Robby), his grandchildren Jackson Hamilton Duffin, Oliver Yandall Duffin, Anderson Jay Duffin, Tillie Faye Felder and Hamilton Forbes Felder. He is also survived by his brothers William Thornton Oliver (Coylene) and Robert Leon Oliver, his sister in laws Gay Anderson Lobingier (Steve) and Kakky Anderson Dyer (Jim) and his brother in law Paul Anderson (Sandy) as well as his nieces and nephews Kathy, Gale , Will , Kriki , Greyson, Brooks, Clayton, Gillian, Jay and Jeff.
Services will be held Monday, September 23, 2024 at 11:00 am at Christ Episcopal Church, 510 Belknap Place San Antonio, Texas 78212. Reception to follow in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for donations to be made to Friends of Music at Christ Episcopal Church, the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
