Alfonso Lopez Valdez went to be with our Lord on Thursday, September 2, 2021, in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 76. Alfonso was born on October 30, 1944, to Rodolfo Lopez Zertuche and Maria Cruz de Valdez in Galeana Nuevo Leon, Mexico and lived in San Antonio for over 55 years as a proud citizen of the United States.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Rosalinda Lopez, his children, Marcos Alfonso, wife Sandra, Alfredo, wife Monica, his Grandchildren Brandi Lee Morkovsky (Ryan), Amanda, Alexandria, Ariana, and Nina, and his Great- Grandchildren Aiden and Amy, along with his sister Juana and brothers Rodolfo and Humberto.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Guillermina, Ramon, Elisa, Ernesto, Maria de Luz, Adelia, and Ricardo.
Alfonso was 1 of 12 children and was a member of a large loving family, which only grew over the years with marriage, the birth of his sons, and the endless friendships he made along the way.
Alfonso was an avid learner of life and the experiences you gain on the journey. Whether it was making the most of a difficult childhood in Saltillo and San Nicolas, to chasing his dreams to be a professional baseball player throughout Mexico, courting his neighbor, which would eventually be his wife, to making the journey north to The United States for a new life, Alfonso was never one to wait around.
In his older years, he traded his own expeditions for those he could find in the people he met, the books he read, and the countless television documentaries he watched. Alfonso traveled the world by viewing maps and watching documentaries on anything that he found interest in and having conversations with strangers to learn more about their adventures. He was known to also have a drink or two with coworkers and compadres after a long day of work to share stories and reminisce on the past.
As for his extended family and close friends, Alfonso enjoyed all events and gatherings, especially those that included music and conversation. Alfonso could not wait for the party to start, so that he and his lovely wife Rosalinda could start the festivities by dancing the night away. In later years, he never slowed down, as God blessed him with 2 Daughter-In-Laws and 5 Granddaughters just in case his partners needed a break. He was also one of the ones that stayed around for long in-depth conversations about life into the wee hours of the night, which many will remember.
At home, Alfonso was easy going, enjoying the simpler things in life. He loved spending time with his immediate family, whether it was brunches on Sunday enjoying his wife’s cooking, to trying to keep up with all the conversations at the table, or driving to fields, gyms, or theaters to see his granddaughters perform. When he had enough, he would simply slip away to the couch or his room and would watch any game that was on TV and would fall away into a peaceful nap.
As for work, Alfonso was a self-employed flooring contractor who work for numerous companies over his 50-year career, recently with REDI and DIXIE Carpet. He took pride in the fact that he worked up until July 2021 and even joked that he was ready to go back to work after he was released from the hospital in early August. Unfortunately, he did not get that opportunity but knows that his presence will be missed by those he leaves behind.
Please join us to celebrate the life of Alfonso Lopez Valdez. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to time 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 15, 2001 at Porter Loring Mortuary.
