

TSgt Alfred (Freddie) Lloyd D’Amico, 66, passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2013. He was born April 11, 1946 in Harlingen, Texas to Felix and Olga D’Amico who preceded him in death. Alfred served over 20 years in the Air Force from October 1962 thru December 1982 and retired as a disabled veteran. He served as a Computer Programmer/System Analyst. Other missions he supported were Flight Line Operations in Okinawa supporting C-130 Hercules aircraft for readiness flights to Vietnam; Officer and NCO Data Base management and Assignment Systems Programming for the Military Personnel Center at Randolph AFB; managed computer files for Finance and personnel Records for Southern Command at Albrook AFB Panama Canal, Panama; worked with Peruvian Air Force in Lima, Peru, assisting in trouble-shooting and finding a solution to Logistical Systems Computers. Alfred’s final assignment was at the Air Force Technical Application Center (AFTAC) converting satellite telemetry data into Graphs and Charts for Nuclear Detection supporting the Eastern Test Range at Kennedy Space Center. TSgt D’Amico enjoyed serving his country, was trained in many different jobs and enjoyed learning a great deal about other cultures in the different countries he was privileged to be assigned. As a second career, Alfred retired from Southwest Airlines.
Alfred led a very spiritual life and valued fellowshipping with his church brothers and sisters. He was happiest spending quality time with his family. His love, passion and talent for music gave him the ability to play music by ear and pass his talents by teaching and mentoring others. His musical talent gave him the ability to play many instruments including: guitar, piano, flute, violin, trumpet, and many more. Alfred was always willing to help others. Alfred was an avid golf and tennis player as well as being an expert at billiards. He was a member of the San Antonio Tennis Association and often played in the McFarlin Tennis Center leagues. The highlight in his golfing career was a hole-in-one on November 1, 1996.
Alfred was also preceded in death by a daughter, Laura D’Amico Steiner of Tampa, FL. He is survived by his wife, Hilda L. D’Amico. He is also survived by his children, Heidi N. D’Amico of San Antonio, TX, Dinora D’Amico, Novette Gish and husband Franz, Alfred L. D’Amico Jr., Gina D’Amico and Ruy Aldo D’Amico and wife Tamara, all of the Tampa/St. Petersburg area. Grandchildren include Michaela Steiner, Michael Steiner II, Alicia, Samantha, Alexis, Ruy Antonio D’Amico, Ashley Walkup and Trinity Reign Rios. Great grandchildren, Jasliene Steiner and Michael Steiner III. Alfred is also survived by sisters, Edna D’Amico and Dinorah D'Amico Petrie and husband Edmond, and brother, Ruy Alberto D’Amico of San Antonio.
The visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 beginning at 6:00 P.M. followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Rd. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at 12:30 P.M. at Faith Assembly of God, 8023 Huebner Rd. Interment with military honors will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
