

Alfred Gendorf was a caring husband, father and grandfather. He departed this world in the early afternoon at his home in Hewitt, Texas on March 9, 2022, at the age of 76.
He was born to Ingeborg and Erich Gendorf on December 16th, 1945. The family immigrated from Brazil to the United States in 1958, a move that was orchestrated by Inge’s mother “Oma Mueller”. The family settled in Salt Lake City, Utah along with Inge’s sister and her family. He joined the United States Army and served proudly as a medic, seeing action in Korea, Vietnam and Granada. His later military postings included being a nurse in a neonatal hospital in Hawaii, a platoon Sergeant for a mobile medical unit in North Carolina and a senior medical trainer for Army, Army Reserve and Marine field medical personnel in Utah, Idaho, Montana and parts of California. He retired from the military and went on to become a civil servant, working for the State of Utah Health Department as an epidemiologist. He and his wife later moved to Hewitt, Texas where he worked for the Waco, Texas VA hospital helping other military veterans. He retired from the VA to better care for his wife, who was battling cancer. His favorite pastimes were going to the casino, fishing, pistol and rifle shooting and taking road trips. He also took pride in his backyard BBQs for family gatherings.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Alicia, and his parents Erich and Ingeborg. He is survived by his two daughters, Debbie Gendorf and Jannette Compton(Bryon), his son Timothy Gendorf, his brother Erwin Gendorf, and two sisters, Erika Sanchez and Edelweiss (Eddie Jessup). He leaves behind three grandchildren:, MacGuire, Jazmine and Camden, as well as, many nieces, nephews.
Alfred Gendorf services will be held at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home in San Antonio, TX. A viewing on April 14th from 4-8pm, service is April 15th at 9 am with a memorial service at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 10:30 am.
