

Alfredo M. Castaneda went to the Lord peacefully on August the 23rd 2016 at the age of 97. He was born on July 30th 1919 in San Antonio, Texas. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Concepcion (Connie); brothers, Joe and Frank Castaneda; sisters, Alma Terrazas, Mary Louise Aguilar, and Sarah Flores; son-in-law, Jose Fuentes. He is survived by his daughters, Irene Fuentes, Sylvia Valadez(Hector) and Celia Villarreal (Juan); sons, Alfredo, Jr., Albert (Velma) and Adolf John (Sylvia)Castaneda; sister-in-law, Erlene Mendez; 22 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and 16great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Alfredo joined the Navy and served his country during WWII for four years and also served in the Air Force Reserves after his Navy tour. During his Navy tour, his ship was torpedoed by the enemy and he and some crew members had to survive at sea for about two weeks before they were rescued. He retired from Kelly Air Force Base where he worked as an air craft mechanic. His passion was watching baseball and his favorite team are the Texas Rangers. His family will deeply miss their Dad, Pop and Grandpa Castaneda. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Trevino Funeral Home 226 Cupples Road on Thursday, September 01, 2016. Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. at St. Timothy Catholic Church, 1515 Saltillo Street,San Antonio, TX. 78207 on Friday, September 02, 2016. Interment to follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.
