Alfredo G. Sanchez, “Fred,” of Edroy, Texas passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born to Pablo and Jovita Sanchez in Odem, Texas, on June 27, 1949 as the youngest of 9 children. His fondest childhood memories included growing up on a farm east of Edroy, where the closest neighbor was a quarter mile away and they were free to roam the farmland. Fred was a Vietnam veteran who served honorably in the U.S. Air Force for 8 years. He then went on to serve for 34 years in Civil Service, retiring as Chief, Operations Compliance, Logistic Division at Randolph AFB in 2013.
He married the love of his life, Irma Sanchez, of Del Rio, Texas, on June 29, 1985. Together they welcomed and raised two daughters, Katie and Elizabeth, whom he doted upon. His most cherished moments were enjoying time with his family, especially his two grandchildren, Luke and Emilia. Fred also enjoyed fellowship with his friends. He was a loving husband, father, and “Welo,” as well as a steadfast and devout Catholic who loved nothing more than serving others. In his retirement, you could often find him helping in whatever ways were needed at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. He believed in the power of prayer and spent most nights praying the rosary for friends and family in need.
Fred is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ted and Abel Sanchez, and son Anthony Sanchez. He is survived by his wife, Irma Sanchez, daughters Katie (Stephen) and Elizabeth (Matt,) and grandchildren Luke and Emilia. He is also survived by his siblings Alberto Sanchez- Odem, Sister Lucelia Sanchez, MSSA- San Antonio, Rogelio Sanchez- Horseshoe Bay, Valdemar Sanchez- Kingsville, Jose Sanchez- San Antonio, and Ilda Ruiz- Kingsville. He will also be sorely missed by his numerous nephews and nieces.
We are thankful to God for the time granted to us with Fred. We love you and will miss you. We will strive to love and serve others how you did. Eternal rest, grant unto him O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him.
