Alice Marcus, née Fleisig, died Sunday, May 12, at 7:30 am. She was 87. With her descendants -- son, Robert; grandchildren, Jonathan and Gabrielle; and great-granddaughter Isabel -- and with her many cherished friends, Mrs. Marcus shared her unswerving devotion, great humanism and love of people, intellectual fascination with life, and her art. Her wonderful, fanciful painting derived much from New York City's "ash can" artists, and her works survive to enrich the lives of those who knew her. During her time in San Antonio, Mrs. Marcus and beau, Irving Rosenbaum were the subjects of a feature in the Express-News; the article celebrated the couple's persistent enjoyment of life and art. She is dearly missed.
