On a day like no other in San Andres, Isla de Columbia, Alicia entered into this world the seventh of thirteen children. She was born on February 26, 1929 to Eva Stephens and Oakley Farbes. At six months old she was adopted by her aunt and uncle Akalina (Escalona) and Timothy Rochester. As a young adult she moved to the city of Colon, in Panama where she later married and had two children, Eugenia and Fernando Robinson.
Alicia knew something was missing from her life; she sought the Lord and he heard her plea. She committed her life to Christ and was changed forever. Years later, she met the love of her life, an American soldier, Henry Montgomery. They united in holy matrimony and from this union came three children, Enrique (Andres), Ana, and Joan (Michelle). The family was stationed at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX, in 1965. Fernando joined his brother and sisters in America in 1968.
God dealt with her to find a home church. Through her neighbor and close friend, Frances Briers, the family visited and joined Faith Temple Apostolic Church under the leadership of Bishop Horace M. Young. Alicia was a loyal and dependable servant in the house of the Lord, serving on the usher board, praying for the sick and shut in, and silently helping those in need. One of her favorite scriptures was "Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked". Psalms 84:10 KJV. She later moved her membership to First Apostolic Church in Lockhart, TX, under Pastor Dora Jones, where she continued in service assisting the Pastor, working in the kitchen, and as a prayer warrior. Alicia remained a faithful member under Pastor Debra Byrd until her death.
Alicia had a love of sewing, which led to her enrollment at St. Phillips College and a certificate in tailoring and upholstery. She enjoyed making ceramics, picture framing, and interior decorating, all while working full time and raising three teenagers after the death of her husband in 1978. Everyone that knew her knew that she also loved to cook. She would often send gifts of food to those in need, as well as family and friends both near and far. In addition, Alicia served the community as a member of the DAV Auxiliary #128 in support of local veterans.
God called our beloved wife, mother, and friend home on Friday, April 12th. The loved ones she left behind to carry on her legacy are Fernando Robinson (Andrea) of Midwest City, OK; Andres Montgomery of Seattle, WA; Ana Francis of Houston, TX; and Michelle Williams (Michael) of Georgetown, TX, three sisters, one brother, nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Carried by the angels into the celestial shores, she is resting peacefully with our heavenly Father. The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Sunday, April 21, 2013 at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
