

Dr. Perales served in the US Marine Corp during both WWII and Korea. His higher education began at Del Mar College and continued at St. Mary's University where he earned a BA and was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship. He received his master’s degree from our Lady of the Lake University and graduated from the Doctoral Program at the University of Texas at Austin where he received a doctorate in linguistics.
His career began with the Edgewood ISD where he taught elementary and middle school, retiring in 1979 as Deputy Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum for the San Antonio Independent School District. He attended St. Anthony de Padua Catholic church where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus third and fourth degree and a member of the Spanish choir.
He was preceded in death by his parents Emilio S. Perales and Rosa M. Perales; his brother Nick Perales; sisters Susana Perales, and Viola Garza Melva Ramirez; and his grandson Ruben Jesus Tijerina.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years Alicia Perales; his children Alonso (Karen) Perales, Irma Alicia (Rubén) Tijerina, Yolanda (Richard) Martínez, David Perales (Dawn Starke), Miriam (Daniel) Villejo, Leticia (Christopher) Paveglio, and Anthony (Almira) Perales; 12 Grandchildren; 16 Great Grandchildren; and one Great, Great Grandchild. He is also survived by a very special niece Maggie (Angel) Rodríguez.
His family would also like to express our heartfelt gratitude and love to the staff at Heritage Creek Assisted Living and a sincere thank you to St. Gabriel's Hospice Care.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, October 11, 2021, at Porter Loring Mortuary.
