

Alta Mae Horton Davlin, age 89, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on June 13, 2013. She was born on March 19, 1942 to Earl and Eleanor Horton in Ranger, Texas. After she graduated from Ranger High School, Alta Mae married the love of her life, Earnest Davlin, at the age of 17. Alta Mae worked at a local five and dime while Earnest joined the United States Army and was stationed at Camp Bowie in Brownwood, Texas. In 1943 they moved to San Antonio after Earnest got a job at Kelly Air Force Base.
Alta Mae loved being a stay at home housewife and devoted mother to her three children. She also enjoyed teaching Sunday school at the local Baptist Church. After the children were grown and out of the house, she and Earnest spend the winter months in Port Aransas, Texas. They had many friends there and spent a lot of time fishing for flounder. Alta Mae was a loving and devoted grandmother and great-grandmother to her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Alta Mae was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Eleanor Horton; sister, Patsy Thomas, Mary Francis Horton; and daughter, Beverly Wurz. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Earnest Davlin; brother, Charles Horton; daughter, Pamela Allen; son, Robert Davlin and wife, Valerie; grandchildren, Tracy Engler, Lori Allen, Shay Wurz, Ryan Wurz, and Vanessa Davlin; and great-grandchildren, Douglas Engler, Cordy Engler, Nicole Engler, Kate Allen, Austin Wurz, Colton Engler, Clayton Engler, Riley Wurz, Vincent Davlin, and Mileena Davlin.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, June 17, 2013 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Alta Mae will be missed by all her family and friends, but has left behind many wonderful memories for those that loved her.
