

He and his wife Betty moved to San Antonio in 1964 where they raised their children. They moved to Utah for a short time before returning to San Antonio. Alvin was a veteran of the U.S. Navy where he served as a radar man. He began working for the Department of Defense as a Civil Service auditor in 1962 before retiring after over 30 years of service. Alvin was a member of Shearer Hills Baptist Church. He was a hard working volunteer in his children's private school where he served as treasurer and as an unpaid janitor/custodian for San Antonio Christian Schools during his children's time there. He enjoyed gardening and wood-working.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Geraldine Whealy and Edith O'Brien.
Alvin is survived by his wife of sixty years, Betty Snyder; daughters, Karen Snyder, and Barbara Saathoff and husband Brent; son, Randy Snyder and wife Cindy; grandchildren, Sean Saathoff and wife Ellen, and Anna Saathoff; brothers, Richard Snyder, and William Snyder and wife Kathy.
The family extends special thanks to Adante Senior Living and Embrace Hospice for their loving care.

A committal service will follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
