Amanda Guerra

She spent her childhood in Hebbronville, graduated high school in 1957, then moved with her family to Corpus Christi. She attended Del Mar College and received her Nursing certificate in 1959. She married Ramon Guerra on March 6, 1960, and began her life of service to her community and her family, giving up her nursing career.

She moved from Corpus to a family ranch in Sejita and devoted her life to her husband, assisting with the business aspect of their dairy and farming operation. She was passionate about her role as a wife and mother and devoted her life to her family. She was a lifelong Democrat and supported her husband's political aspirations for many years. While her children were growing up, she was heavily involved in all of their school activities. For 25 years, in many capacities, she served as a room mom, on the PTA, and on various committees.

At age 55, after sending all of her daughters off to college, she resumed her nursing career. After her retirement, she and her husband moved to San Antonio to be closer to their daughters. She had so many interests and hobbies in her life, but hosting fabulous parties was on the top of her list. She had a passion for life, never ceasing to amaze us with endless energy and determination.

She was a wonderful and loving wife, daughter, mom, grandma, sister, aunt and friend. She touched so many lives and leaves us with such special memories.

She is survived by her husband, Ramon Guerra; daughters, Cynthia Vela (Jesse), Nora Howe (Brett), Elsa Hinojosa (Saul) and Tricia Silva (Martin); 9 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sisters, Josie Pantoja (Daniel) and Gracie Barrera (Enrique); and brother, Robert Leal (Pearl) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family is especially grateful to Dr. Suneetha Challa of Cancer Care Centers and her staff. Their care and comfort to the family is profoundly appreciated.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
