

Amelia was a woman of strong character and kindness, deeply loved by her family and steadfast in her faith. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose unwavering faith and unconditional love inspired generations. She lived a remarkable life, centered around her family and community. Amelia was a shining example of strength, resilience, and love. Amelia cherished her family, creating countless memories through family vacations, holiday gatherings, and everyday moments. Beyond family, Amelia’s passions included cheering on her beloved Houston Astros, whose games she eagerly watched with family. She also delighted in friendly competitions playing Bingo, Bunco and Loteria with her loved ones, fostering laughter and community. Her strong values, kindness, wise counsel, and generous heart made her a beloved figure in the lives of all who knew her, creating a lasting legacy.
Amelia was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, John H Cavazos; daughter, Rosemary Rodriguez; son, John Cavazos; and great-granddaughter, Mallory Salazar.
Amelia is survived by her daughters, Rita Mendiola and husband, Edward, Katherine Gutierrez and husband, Rick; son-in-law George Rodriguez; daughter-in-law Janie Cavazos; grandchildren, Jennifer Salazar, Christopher Griffin, Jeannette Gamboa, Emily Turk, Ricky Gutierrez, Sarah Mendiola, Alyssa Parker, and Camryn Gutierrez; and great-grandchildren, Matthew and Madelyn Salazar, Jordan Gamboa, Austin and Sofia Elena Turk, her namesake - Amelia, Hayes, and Easton Parker, and Caliana Mendiola.
The community will have an opportunity to pay their respects at a viewing scheduled at Porter Loring North on Sunday, October 20th from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, followed by a Rosary at 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Little Flower on Monday, October 21st at 9:00 am. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
