Andrew “Andy” James Greene was born to Milford and Barbara Greene on May 28, 1960 in Amsterdam, New York. After a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, he departed this world surrounded by his family on February 12th, 2026 and is now with our Heavenly Father.
Andy never met anyone who did not become his friend. He gave selflessly to all he met and the word “no” seemed to be absent from his vocabulary. He loved life deeply and lived it fully—with humor, warmth, and an enduring appreciation for a clever play on words, always searching to make someone chuckle or grin (or just to entertain himself).
Andy shared 42 devoted years of marriage with his junior prom date, Lynda. They met in middle school band, with their friendship blossoming into romance in college. Together they built a wonderful and fulfilling life full of friends, music, fun and their greatest treasure, their three children.
A graduate of West Genesee High School in Camillus, New York, Andy went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Le Moyne College in Syracuse, New York. After following Lynda to San Antonio in 1982, he built a successful career as a Certified Public Accountant. He moved his practice into his home so he could be present for what mattered to him most—taking his children to school, playing them classic rock in the pickup truck on the way home and being involved in their lives.
Andy was a loving father who taught his children the importance of giving back to others and serving their community. He taught children’s Sunday school for many years, long after his own children were grown, and volunteered for church events like Advent festivals, Vacation Bible School and the Master’s Hands Wednesday night youth class.
Scouting held a special place in Andy’s heart. He spent his youth in Boy Scouts in upstate New York, enjoying campouts in the Adirondack Mountains. Once his children were old enough for scouting, he spent many years serving as a scout leader, teaching young men lifelong skills. He was deeply involved with and held leadership positions in the Alamo Area Council, Troop 228 and the Aina Topa Hutsi chapter of the Order of the Arrow. He organized Cub and One campouts, served as a merit badge coach, and continued to participate in leadership roles and take part in High Adventure trips even after his own sons had left for college. He was immensely proud of his two Eagle Scout sons and was honored with the prestigious Silver Beaver Award in recognition of his distinguished service.
As an unwavering advocate for education, Andy spearheaded the Northside ISD PAC for numerous school bond initiatives through the years and served as an integral member of the NISD Citizens Bond and Bond Advisory Committees since 1995.
Andy and Lynda have lived in the Great Northwest neighborhood since moving to San Antonio. Andy served on the Board of Directors for the Great Northwest Community Improvement Association for many years, where he earned numerous awards, and was always the first to volunteer and organize neighborhood cleanups, a proud member of the A-Team neighborhood cleanup group.
Andy’s dedication to his community grew to volunteering for numerous local political campaigns, often managing them in full. He worked for many years with San Antonio City Council District 6 on the city staff. In this capacity, he attended countless neighborhood meetings and collaborated with those residents to strengthen and improve their local communities. He managed the Infrastructure Management program and the Neighborhood Access & Mobility program and served on the Metropolitan Planning Organization, working closely with VIA, SAMCO, TXDOT and the non-profit San Antonio Mobility Coalition. He even ran for City Council himself, narrowly losing in a runoff election.
Alongside all this, Andy was always there for his family. He often gave his time to coach his children’s basketball and soccer teams and he could always be counted on to volunteer for kite days, field days and PTA events.
He was also a very dedicated band dad, attending countless performances for all four of his family members and supporting his three children as a roadie for the Taft Raider Marching Band for over 12 years, as well as contributing his time and efforts to the Raider Band Boosters organization in order to “Make It Happen”. For many years, he was also proudly in charge of organizing the Spaghetti Dinner, an annual fundraiser for the Taft Band Boosters.
Above all, Andy valued, cared for and loved his family. He is preceded in death by his father Milford “Mike” Greene. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lynda; his three children, Michael (Elizabeth), Jacob (Hilary), and Jayme; and his cherished grandson, Maximilian James, whose arrival was the highlight of the year. He is also survived by his mother, Barbara; his brothers, Mark (Cindy), John (Karen), and Peter (Marybeth); his cousin, Heather Balmer (Bob); and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Andy’s Life will be held at First Presbyterian Church of San Antonio, 404 N Alamo St., San Antonio, TX 78205 at 1:00PM on Friday, March 13th, 2026.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (www.pancan.org) to honor Andy’s memory.
Andy’s family would like to thank Dr. Amanda Bucheit, Nurse Practitioner Jake Ribak, and all the caring nurses and staff at the START Cancer Center for their support during the last year.
The memory of Andy’s wonderful sense of humor, his loyal devotion to his friends and family, and his unwavering commitment to community will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
