Anita spent her early life helping to take care of her family while going to school. She graduated from Rio Mesa High School in 1983. She gave birth to her son Stephen in 1990. In 1991 Anita met her forever husband Damon Cook. She continued to work and began to realize her dream of owning her own business. In 1996 she got her state in home daycare license and opened the doors to her business. She gave birth to her second child, a daughter, Caroline, in 1995. She married Damon Cook in 1996. We estimate that she had over three hundred kids come through her doors. She provided a comforting and warm daycare environment in Camarillo, CA for the better part of 27 years. To those who knew her she was an avid gardener, accomplished family cook/baker and a wise woman.
In her words “I lived a full life because I feel I accomplished what I have been put on earth to accomplish. I had a great love, I raised two amazing children and I feel I helped influence the lives of many children and their families. Some people can’t say they have done anything even though they may get to live a long time.”
She was preceded in death by her mother and brother, Julian Escamilla. Anita is survived by her husband, Damon A. Cook, children: Stephen Cook (Crystiana) and Caroline R. Dorn (Jordan); step-father, Lorenzo Salgado; siblings, Javier Gonzalez (Cruz), Eloisa Keck (David), Angie Salgado, Rosalinda Marron, Lorenzo Salgado, Jr. (Jessica) and Izaura Puentes (Angel); cousins, Maria Arana (Luis) and Raul Boone; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
